@Irish-Soul Maybe do some odd jobs? Or do some freelance work? There is a board on here where you can apply to requests and the like, same goes for other major websites centered around art.

You know, they do have an army band, as well as promoters. I'm sure they actually COULD use an orchestral composer

Good people survive by taking care of themselves first. Do the free songs on NG a few times a month or so your skills don´t rust or to experiment but focus on your musical endeavours.
But explain what costs for music do you mean?
